When sanding a floor, it is standard practice to use a coarse-grit paper for the first cut, followed by a medium-grit paper and a fine-grit paper for succeeding cuts. In choosing a sequence, select the finest grade you want to use and work back to the coarser grades, skipping only one grade between each sanding.
